Sanda is an exciting and fast-paced combat workout routine which get the practitioner into peak physical shape. It is an excellent system for fighting and self-defense as well as an incredible workout system for those searching for exercise with purpose.
So what does Sanda means and where does it origins from?
Sanda means free fighting, and it origins back to 1920s by the Chinese for the training of hand to hand combat.
Sanda employs the three major ranges of combat: kicking range, striking range and the take-down range.
1. Punching range
2. Kicking range
3. Take-down range
Beginners will learn to use their hands and their feet for striking, kicking, defensive and offensive maneuvers and closing the gap in a fight. They will be trained in all the basic strikes and kicks, and learn to use them with the use of kick shield, focus mitts, and heavy bags.
Intermediate and advanced practitioners will continue by delving deeper into the striking and kicking combos and exploring the vast amount of takedown techniques contained in Sanda. They will be given the opportunity to engage in live sparring on mats and use all the techniques at their disposal.
And where can I learn Sanda at?
Several fight gyms or wushu clubs are now offering Sanda classes. This gives people with more choices of learning an all-round combat exercise.
As a Sanda practitioner, I would recommend Wan Wu Sports and Martial Arts Academy. It is an one-stop provider for all sorts of combat exercises, ranging from Chinese Wushu to Kickboxing.
Tex Toh, the founder and coach of Wan Wu Sports and Martial Arts Academy. Though started at a late age of 18, he trained himself everyday at different locations, just to strive for the best. His efforts were being paid off when he came in 3rd for both Interschool and National competition just at the second year in Sanda.
